How to Make Cappuccino, Latte, Flat White, and Mocha at Home

While enjoying a cappuccino, latte, flat white, or mocha can feel like an indulgence reserved for coffee shops, you can easily make these delicious drinks at home with a bit of practice.
What You’ll Need
To get started, you’ll need:
- An espresso machine with a built-in steaming wand
- A stainless steel milk foaming jug (300 ml—available in our shop for £14.50)
- A coffee thermometer (available for £9.25)

Cappuccino

Ingredients:
- 2 shots of espresso (16g)
- 100 ml of whole milk
Instructions:
- Warm a large cappuccino cup.
- Prepare your espresso.
- Fill the milk jug with 100 ml of cold milk.
- Heat the steam wand, then immerse it in the milk at an angle.
- Turn on the steam, keeping the wand just below the milk surface.
- Steam until the thermometer reads 150°F (65.5°C) and the milk doubles in volume.
- Bang the jug on the counter to remove air bubbles and swirl until shiny.
- Pour the milk into the espresso, creating a white center edged with brown.
- Optional: Sprinkle with chocolate powder.
Latte

Ingredients:
- 1 shot of espresso (8g)
- 100 ml of skimmed or whole milk
Instructions:
- Warm a heat-proof glass.
- Prepare your espresso.
- Fill the milk jug with 100 ml of cold milk.
- Heat the steam wand, then immerse it in the milk.
- Steam until the thermometer reads 150°F (65.5°C).
- Tap the jug gently on the counter to remove air bubbles, then swirl.
- Pour the milk from high, gradually lowering the jug to create latte art patterns.
Flat White

Ingredients:
- 2 shots of espresso (16g)
- 100 ml of whole milk
Instructions:
- Warm a cappuccino cup.
- Prepare your espresso.
- Fill the milk jug with 100 ml of cold milk.
- Heat the steam wand, keeping it just below the milk surface to avoid too much foam.
- Steam until the thermometer reads 150°F (65.5°C).
- Tap and swirl the jug to remove bubbles.
- Pour steadily from a height, then lower the jug to create patterns.
Mocha

Ingredients:
- 2 shots of espresso (16g)
- Homemade hot chocolate
Hot Chocolate Recipe:
- Fill a glass ¾ full with cold milk.
- Add 25g of chocolate powder to the milk and steam to 160°F (71°C).
- Prepare your espresso.
Instructions:
- Fill half the glass with hot chocolate.
- Top with the espresso.
- Add steamed milk with a rocking motion.
- Optional: Sprinkle chocolate powder or top with marshmallows or whipped cream.
